Source: Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott's appeal hearing will stretch into Wednesday

FRISCO -- Ezekiel Elliott's appeal hearing to challenge his six-game suspension by the NFL isn't done yet. The Cowboys running back began his fight Tuesday in New York, but the hearing will spill over into Wednesday, a source confirmed. The hearing, which was held at an undisclosed location so the media couldn't stake out the league's Park Avenue headquarters, includes witness testimony. Arbitrator Harold Henderson, a former long-time NFL employee, is making the decision whether to uphold, overturn or reduce the punishment issued by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. The league announced the suspension on Aug. 11 after a year-long investigation was reviewed by four independent advisers to Goodell. Elliott, his representatives and the NFL Players Association filed for notice of appeal on Aug. 15. The carryover into a second day pushes the wait for Henderson's decision ever closer to Dallas' season opener Sept. 10 against the New York Giants. Final roster cuts are made Saturday, so it's possible the Cowboys will have to hold an active roster spot for Elliott and cut another player. If Elliott's suspension is upheld, he'll be moved to the reserve/suspended list. If there's no ruling, the Cowboys could begin game prep and factor in the chance Elliott could play.
