A couple of recent threads here have gotten me wondering again, for what non IBM-PC platforms were early versions of Windows ported to? It is kind of funny, if you look back at the famous 1983 Byte Magazine Microsoft Windows article, they were really trying to emphasize that Windows could be made to run on almost any x86 based platform. Had Windows gotten out of the door earlier, some of these non IBM platforms could have enjoyed a little more success. Sadly, from a collectors standpoint it seems like most only care about the vanilla Microsoft product. And platform-specific versions get lumped in with non-unique OEM versions or OEM versions that only bundle some additional drivers. The ones that are known to exist: Zenith Z-100 Platform: Original non IBM-PC compatible Z-100. What is floating around out there needs a redump though. DEC Rainbow: Can't tell if this was commercially sold, the only known archive looks like it was just thrown out there. ACT Apricot: Apparently not really IBM PC compatible, but received "ports" up to Windows 3.x. Siemens PC-D OEM: Not too familiar with this one. Other known IBM PC compatible OEM or OEM+Driver Windows 1.x versions: Zenith Z-100 PC: Very little difference from vanilla. Z-100 PC Series is fairly IBM PC compatible. HP Vectra OEM: Generic PC clone VAXMate: Win 1.x for this surfaced recently, it is sort of IBM PC compatible but includes extra drivers and distributed as restore media with DOS ...
