Capitan at Texico When: 7 p.m. today Records: Capitan 2-2, Texico 2-3 Last week: Capitan had an open date, while Texico lost at Farwell 48-0. Last year: The teams did not play. They haven’t faced each other for several years. Of note: The Wolverines are a bit banged up after the Farwell game, coach Ryan Autrey said, but they’re looking for a bounce-back effort. “That’s our job, to get the kids refocused,” he said. … The game came together because both teams were looking to fill an open date. Texico will travel to Capitan next year. … Top players for the Tigers include sophomore QB Prince Bowen and junior TE/LB Devan Wooddell. “We’ll have to be able to control the ball,” Autrey said. “They (Tigers) do a good job of putting pressure on you.” … Autrey noted the teams play similar styles on offense. “They’ve got multiple formations they like to get into,” he said. Boise City (Oklahoma) at Melrose When: 6 p.m. today Records: Boise City 2-2, Melrose 5-0 Last week: The Wildcats posted an 87-52 win at Rolla, Kansas. Meantime, the Buffaloes captured their fifth straight mercy-rule win, 50-0 at Mountainair. Last year: The teams have never met. Of note: Again, both teams were looking for a game. The Buffs play at Boise City next year. … Melrose coach Dickie Roybal expects his team to likely face its first test of the season against the Wildcats, who are a Class C 8-man team in Oklahoma and reached the state semifinals last year. “Just watch ...
