It's only March, but the Gamecocks received a hard commit from 6'4 wide receiver Stephen Guidry. What could he bring to the Gamecocks in 2017? With the 2016/17 recruiting season not even out of the gate, the South Carolina Gamecocks have received a few hard commitments from prospects, one of them from community college receiver Stephen Guidry. Guidry, out of Morganza, Louisana, spent a season at Hinds (Miss.) Community College before he started receiving serious college attention from larger programs. Guidry received offers from Miami (Fla.), Louisiana-Monroe, Georgia, Missouri and Mississippi State. Examining the tape, we see Guidry is a larger receiver who uses his size to impose his will upon opposing cornerbacks. He shows a good ability to leap, skying over defenders to grab 50/50 balls while featuring exceptional speed in the open field. His size also make him tough to bring down. Guidry is good at making difficult catches and catching balls in traffic, an important skill that most receivers in the SEC need to possess. He also adds another outside receiver to the Gamecocks roster that could be a potential target for Jake Bentley or Brandon Mcllwain in the future. Being a larger receiver, Guidry could work predominately on the outside, using his skills and size to grab jump balls and make plays near the sidelines.
