The former OSU safety will get a shot in the NFL with the Chiefs. Devin Chappell has signed a free agent deal with the Kansas City Chiefs after going undrafted in the 2017 NFL draft. The hard-hitting safety has often been overlooked in his career by has demonstrated a remarkable work ethic during his time with the Beavers. Chappell started his career as a cornerback but switched to safety and recorded 75 tackles (40 solo), 1 interception and a school-record 6 forced fumbles. In an interview with nfldraftdiamonds.com , Chappell compared his own style of play to that of Miami Dolphin free safety—and 2015 NFL Pro Bowler— Reshad Jones , saying that “the way he plays is how I try to play”. Interestingly enough, when Oregon State hosted a pro day in Corvallis (for NFL scouts to get a look at potential draftees) the Dolphins had a representative on hand, supposedly to check out Chappell. It was not a big surprise that Devin Chappell when undrafted throughout the 7 round NFL draft, but Chappell is used to the underdog role.
