The unseeded Crimson ended up taking on the top three seeds and won one and lost two. FOREST LAKE Failure to execute defensively put Maple Grove on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat to second-seeded Forest Lake in the opening round at CHS Field in St. Paul on June 15. The Crimson (17-9) broke from the gate and roughed up the Rangers’ all-state pitcher Kam Cline with four third inning runs to grab a 4-0 lead. Josh Tyler provided the big hit with a two-run single. (Photo by Rich Moll – richmollphotography.com) The Rangers climbed back within a run on Kline’s three-run homer in the bottom of that inning and tied the game with a solo tally in the fourth frame. The score stayed at 4-4 until the eighth. With one out, Maple Grove’s Dylan Peck singled and came around to score on a throwing error. In the bottom of the eighth, Forest Lake took advantage of a lead-off walk and a botched double play placing the tying run at third and the game-winning run at second.
