Breach Hands On Impressions and Developer Interview

Source: www.co-optimus.com --- Thursday, October 25, 2018
QC Games unveiled their debut title, Breach , a couple months ago during this year's GamesCom. Billed as a third-person, co-op action RPG, there weren't a lot of details about what the game actually was at first. After getting my hands on it for a bit, I can see why. This might be one of the hardest titles I've ever had to describe while also being one of the most fun. Initially,  Breach  appears to be a fairly straightforward action RPG with some lite MMO touches. Choose your class from a variety of melee/ranged/support templates, customize the appearance of your character, then hop into an initial gathering hub. After I played through my first match, though, it became clear that QC Games' ambitions for  Breach  go far beyond what is "the usual." They have blended elements from a variety of games ( Devil May Cry , Monster Hunter , Heroes of the Storm ,  Evolve ) and genres into a new format that feels both familiar yet wholly unique. The standard Co-Op match lets you and up to three friends (or three strangers via matchmaking) team up to battle your way through 7 rooms in a dungeon. The first 6 rooms will be challenge rooms with different objectives to complete within a certain time limit - such as defeating all the enemies, or securing certain points in the room - and the final room will be a boss. That's the straightforward part and here's the twist: you're competing against an A.I. "dungeon master" (called the "Veil Demon") ...

ASUS ROG Zephyrus S now official in the Philippines, priced

Source: hungrygeeks.ph --- Monday, October 15, 2018
The ASUS ROG Zephyrus S has now landed in the Philippines. Initially launched at GamesCom 2018, ASUS ROG’s new entry in the Zephyrus lineup completes the lineup by giving a relatively more affordable experience compared to previous Zephyrus notebooks. The ASUS ROG Zephyrus S now comes with updated hardware courtesy of Intel’s Coffee Lake platform. Inside is a 6-core, 12-thread, Intel Core i7-8750H Coffee Lake processor to deliver top-notch performance on both gaming and creative workloads. The notebook also comes with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 to provide a smooth gaming experience. The display on the Zephyrus S has been improved as well. The notebook’s display is a 15.6-inch screen with a 144Hz refresh rate and a 3ms response time, which is comparable to the Zephyrus M’s display. The screen on the Zephyrus S, however, now has minimal bezels that allowed ASUS ROG to fit in the 15.6-inch screen in a 14.2-inch chassis. Aside from its speed, the notebook’s display is also rated at 100% sRGB color gamut and has wide viewing angles to deliver not just a smooth gameplay experience but an experience rich with color. As with previous Zephyrus gaming notebooks, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S aims to deliver a powerful gaming performance alongside a thin form factor. Measuring 14.95mm when closed and 15.75 when opened, the Zephyrus S was able to shave of 12% of height compared to the original Zephyrus. The Zephyrus S still comes with ASUS ROG’s ...

Good Company Changelog: #005 Gamescom

Source: www.chasing-carrots.com --- Sunday, October 07, 2018
Good Company -> GamesCom -> Wow -> No, really: WOW! We’ll never get used to GamesCom. And how should we? Time again it’s an amazing thing being in Cologne, especially as part of the infamous Indie Arena Booth. It wasn’t easy not to get washed away by the vibes, so we had been grabbing tightly onto our booth we have designed with lots of neat real live treats suiting the world of Good Company. Did you know we even won the 3rd prize for Best Booth Design? Well, yes! But most importantly we were thrilled being able to present our audience a Corporate Machinery Simulator that gave them a blast playing it, even though it’s still rather limited compared to what we have planned for the future. Our special GamesCom version brought many new features and refinements that obviously added a lot to the gameplay. The overhauled introduction scenario worked like a breeze and got people hooked. Furthermore, exclusively for the expo build, we had a self-contained scene with a bigger factory stuffed with machines and bustling with workers. We thought it would be nice to give players a rough outlook as to what they can expect from later versions of Good Company. To watch their reactions – wide eyes and open mouths, to name a few – had been really rewarding. Speaking of rewarding. We were not only flattered by the praise the game received. Even more important were tons of valuable feedback, and the players hadn’t been shy of that. Although we now h ...

We make games emotional! Meet us at Gamescom in Cologne (21.-22.08.18)

Source: www.audeering.com --- Sunday, October 07, 2018
We make games emotional! Meet us at GamesCom in Cologne (21.-22.08.18) Gaming is an emotional topic by definition. If you are a gamer, you know how deep you can enter into what is happening on the screen. At this year’s GamesCom the motto is “The Heart of Gaming” and this fits perfectly to our projects in this field. We will take the gaming experience to the next level by making games even more emotional. Every gamer might have different emotions at certain stages in a game, but at the moment this does not change anything in the way he experiences it. Our emotion recognition technology enables game publishers to add the users emotions as an additional layer to the game. The story or certain actions could change based on the gamer’s emotions. Furthermore, our voice activity detection technology enables speaker diarisation: This means, it detects automatically who is speaking in a multi-player game, so that the user does not have to activate voice chat by pushing a button. Last but not least we enable parental control by detecting if children get too excited and making the game slow down. This sounds interesting to you? Then meet our colleagues in Cologne and contact Bernd Zeilmaier ( bzeilmaier@audeering.com ) now. ...

Source: www.alanwake.info --- Wednesday, October 10, 2018
It's been a while since GamesCom but in the weeks since event doors closed, numerous publications have posted their previews of the game alongside interviews with members of the development team. Here's our final wrap up post of GamesCom 2018. ▼ Wallpapers! Control screenshots from the past couple of months have recently been added to the  official ControlRemedy Imgur page  in beautiful 4K resolution for all your wallpaper needs. ▼ In Jordan Oloman's article for Daily Star , he breaks down what he saw during the Control GamesCom demo, analysing in detail the graphical improvements since Remedy's previous game and the atmosphere inside The Oldest House. "The lighting effects in Control are beyond words, and will most definitely utilize Nvidia’s new ray-tracing technology to its full potential. Floating bodies are basked in warped shadows thanks to rays of sunlight shining through blinds. It is a jaw-dropping sight as they sway peculiarly above the player-character, making you ponder their origin and marvel at the surreal, curious environment." ▼ VG247 spoke to Game Director , Mikael “Mixu” Kasurinen, about Control 's story, exploring more about what drew Jesse Faden to the Federal Bureau of Control, and what the media that influenced the development process. "'There are elements in the world we don’t understand, and that’s what the Bureau is doing – they’re trying to understand,' game director Mikael “Mixu” Kasurinen tells me. 'So ...

Roguelike Space Exploration Game ‘Shortest Trip to Earth’ Enters Steam Early Access Today

Source: www.iceberg-games.com --- Tuesday, October 09, 2018
It’s time to take control of your ship, captain. Shortest Trip to Earth enters Steam Early Access today! Having received critical acclaim at the recent GamesCom 2018 show, Shortest Trip to Earth is a single-player game where the player explores a procedurally generated galaxy in the midst of an intergalactic war, rife with danger and secrets. Players will meet strange life forms and exotic planets while upgrading their ship and crew. The game will feature 1000 pieces of sci-fi art, catering for every unique encounter present in the game. Combat takes place in real time and permadeath ups the ante, adding weight to every action. “We are extremely excited to make our project available on Steam, having been in development for five years. Like my previous title “Teleglitch”, “Shortest Trip to Earth” will swiftly lead players into the hardcore survival zone. The game presents an atmospheric, rich world that rewards exploration and demands you to cope with deadly, often desperate conditions… or die in permadeath and start over. The Shortest Trip universe is harsh, and continuously chips away at hit points, resources, ammo, drones and crew, until you need to start scrapping parts of your ship to keep on going. The game is packed witty tongue-in-cheek comments and innuendo that will appeal to a mature audience.” – Edvin Aedma (Lead Designer) You can now grab Shortest Trip to Earth on Steam for a 15% discount during the week of launch! Wander Around For The Sea Titans In Mutant Year Zero: Road To Eden

Source: aggrogamer.com --- Thursday, October 04, 2018
Mutant Year Zero More gameplay for Mutant Year Zero: Road To Eden is here to show us what we may have missed for Mutant Year Zero out of GamesCom this year It is almost as if The Bearded Ladies have way too much gameplay to give us for Mutant Year Zero: Road To Eden as we are back yet again with another twenty new minutes of it. At least twenty new minutes of it if you did not get to go to GamesCom and give this new map a try. This is the Sea Titans map in Mutant Year Zero and it shows us just how tactical we will need to be to make it through the game or to just survive in general. From my past experiences, it was a rough one to just try and brute force your way through, even with a level and skill advantage over the enemies. Just be sure to take that as a note before December 4 th when we will get to play the game on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It is also worth noting that the team has been taking the feedback and critiques thrown out there for Mutant Year Zero as in this build I am seeing a lot of new features and changes that were not there during E3. If they were, they did not get as highlighted as you can see here. Case in point being the threat lines between enemies and the characters. It also looks like the probability notification is more prominent than before so you can truly make the best of tactics here. Even in its early form still, it looks to be shaping up into an amazing game here. Have a look for yourself though. ...

Cyberpunk 2077 Optimization Process Began At The Start Of Development; Hardware Won’t Limit The Game

Source: wccftech.com --- Thursday, October 04, 2018
Cyberpunk 2077 promises to be one of the best looking games ever released, as seen in the E3 2018 and GamesCom 2018 showcases. CD Projekt Red is taking an interesting approach to development, starting the optimization process at the very beginning, according to a member of the team. Speaking with CG Magazine , Cyberpunk 2077 Lead Cinematic Animator Maciej Pietras confirmed that the optimization process began at the beginning of development. This way, the team is thinking from scratch how to implement features like global illumination without stressing the hardware too much. Is there ever concepts you or the team at the studio come up with that simply can not be done due to hardware limitations? Oh no, actually from the top we knew we were developing the game for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. And we started the process of optimization right at the start. So that’s probably what you see running the demo is a PC with like an i7 and 1080TI, so it’s not astronomical specs. Basically, because we are thinking from scratch about optimization, how streaming works, how to introduce global illumination for instance without overwhelming the PC or the GPU. Now we take those things into account right at the start and optimize for that. Pietras also confirmed that, so far, the team had no issues implementing features, so hardware is likely not going to limit the game. You know we’re working on the Red Engine which we are still upgrading. You know we a ...

Devil May Cry 5 Preview – Big, Beautiful, and Brilliant

Source: expansivedlc.com --- Tuesday, October 02, 2018
Think Devil May Cry and Dante’s name is surely the first to pop into your head. At GamesCom, though, my playthrough was centered around Nero. Capcom have smartly divided the focus of the sequel between various characters, but the look, feel, and playstyle of Devil May Cry 5 is more the games you remember on PS2, less the Ninja Theory remake from a few years ago. Though I still think that one got an unfair rep. Devil May Cry 5 picks up over ten years after the events of the fourth numbered installment with a newly focused Nero now sporting a bionic arm with all-powerful Devil Breaker abilities. If you remember Jax in Mortal Kombat 3 and the power he packs behind his punches, you get the gist. You can tap the attack button for quick, furious strikes, or charge it up for a much stronger attack. Nero also has an effective hand cannon at his disposal, can drag himself toward enemies as well as pull them towards him with a Wire Snatch. And when all else fails, of course, there’s his trusty sword. The demo surprisingly brought me to the UK and the fictional Red Grave City – which basically looks like London with its big red buses and traffic lights. But despite the new settings, this is very obviously a Devil May Cry game with the infamous red and blue orbs, lots of enemies to hack, slash, volley into the air, and all the stylised combos that come along with it. And when they’re all defeated you can bypass doors shrouded in blood-curdl ...

PSX Won’t Be Present For 2018

Source: rectifygaming.com --- Saturday, September 29, 2018
Every year we are all aware of the major events that take place during their respected times. With events such as E3 and GamesCom, big developers and publishers attend these events to gives us some insight on what to expect next from the company. In some cases, publishers will host their own separate event if they offer enough to host on a venue. This easily referring to Sony’s PlayStation Experience (PSX). The annual event takes place in December where studios under Sony’s belt like Guerrilla Games and Naughty Dog showcase some of the projects they have in the works. Along with a line of panels and booths to attend, the two-day event has a lot instore for fans who go each year. Unfortunately it was confirmed by Sony Interactive Entertainment Chairman Shawn Layden, that Sony won’t be hosting the yearly event in the coming months. In the latest PlayStation Blogcast, he states when in discussion about the event: Now that we have Spider-Man out the door . . . we wouldn’t have enough to bring people altogether in some location in North America to have that event. We don’t want to set expectations really high and then not deliver on it. As many fans of the platform anticipate for the event each year, the absence of PSX for 2018 is understandable. With not enough under the publisher’s belt to host the event is fair enough to hold off for this year. Especially as we already know a majority of the anticipated first-party titles for Sony ...

"...new things feel old by the time they come out."

Source: www.metafilter.com --- Sunday, September 30, 2018
The Endless Stream of New Game Releases Is Exciting, but Also Exhausting [Waypoint] "E3 or GamesCom or any of the other major video game events are really just places where companies compete to stay in the same place in the minds of their audience. They release trailers and gameplay demos, sometimes one after another, at an unbelievable pace, simply to stay in the minds of their audiences. [...] The speed of releases; the speed at which we are meant to come to judgment; the speed at which we need to consume these games is hyper-fast. We need to assert that they are good or bad, worth our time or total wastes of it, six months before they even exist. And lets not forget the massive expenditures of time, labor, development money, advertising dollars, and sheer attention that go into games that are declared to be good or bad before they even exist. Funding a race to stand still and to remain in the mind of a potential consumer audience. A constant and eternal war, a contestation in all domains, and for what?" • Why Do We Want More Games When We've Already Got Too Many? [ Nintendo Life ] "There are two opposing sentiments that I've both uttered myself and have heard gamers express many, many times: "I can't wait until that game comes out!" and "Man, I've got a massive backlog of games that I should really work through before I buy any more games."
