Dolphins DE Olivier Vernon fined $37,363 for Mariota hits

Olivier Vernon wasn’t kidding when he said he had been fined “a decent amount” for hitting Tennessee quarterback Marcus Mariota last weekend. The NFL confirmed that Vernon, a Dolphins defensive end, has been fined a total of $37,363 for two incidents against Mariota. Vernon was fined $17,363 for striking the quarterback in the knee area in the second quarter and another $20,000 for striking the quarterback in the head and neck area in the third quarter. Vernon Vernon said he is appealing the fines. Mariota injured the MCL in his left knee and remained in the game despite limited mobility. He is hoping to play Sunday against Atlanta. Bobby McCain confident: The Dolphins appear on track to face the hottest receiver in the NFL, DeAndre Hopkins, without their secondary intact. Cornerback Brice McCain has not practiced this week, meaning rookie Bobby McCain is likely to start. Coach Dan Campbell said Bobby McCain has had a good week of practice in case Brice cannot go. “Bobby doesn’t lack confidence,” Campbell said. Bobby confirmed that Bobby doesn’t lack confidence.
