The Danbury Westerners will kick off their 22nd season in the New England Collegiate Baseball League with their annual Celebrity Breakfast, set for June 10 at 7:30 a.m. at the Amber Room Colonnade in Danbury and featuring former Cincinnati Reds slugger George Foster. Foster, who also served as the first commissioner of the NECBL, was an important part of the Reds’ “Big Red Machine” team that won back-to-back World Series titles in 1975 and 1976. University of Bridgeport pitching coach Josh Parrow is the Westerners’ new manager, and his team includes several players from southwestern Connecticut, including former New Fairfield High pitcher Nick Gallagher of Binghamton University; former Stamford High pitcher Billy DeVito of the University of Hartford; former Trinity Catholic High pitcher Randy Polonia of the University of Connecticut; former Shelton High pitcher Ryan Testani of Seton Hall; former Amity Regional High pitcher Ross Weiner of Bryant University; and former Fairfield Prep infielder Shawn Blake of Elon University. ...
