The long, hot summer is just beginning for Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton — one that will ultimately reveal what is at the core of each candidate. Mrs. Clinton has taken the heat for 25 years. Can Mr. Trump? At issue here is whether the New York real estate tycoon is a con man and whether the former secretary of state is trustworthy — all questions to be examined here through the spectrum of energy and the environmental issues. The verdict is, literally, still out for Mr. Trump, who will stand trial civilly in late November on allegations that he “defrauded” students at the for-profit Trump University. Voters, though, will assess the facts for themselves before the November election. Certainly, some of Trump’s primary opponents have said as much, maintaining that he had screwed the working class and that he had presided over a number of other failed ventures.
