If a spaceship full of Martians landed here this week and demanded to be ‘taken to your leaders’, they’d be in luck. And so would we Earthlings. We’d direct them to a city close to Shanghai, where on September 4th and 5th there is a G-20 Leaders’ Summit—a meeting of the heads of state of our 20 wealthiest countries. Our planetary invaders observing the summit would be so unimpressed by the lack of substance and decisiveness that they’d return to their spaceship and blast off in search of a worthier prize elsewhere in the universe to conquer.
