Boom Williams has found a place in the NFL, and it’s not far from Lexington, Ky. The former Kentucky star running back has signed as an undrafted free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals. Williams told SEC Country two days before the draft that he believed he’d be selected. That belief led Williams to forgo his senior season at Kentucky and declare for the draft minutes after his junior season ended . He became one of a handful of underclassmen who declared for the draft and didn’t get picked. Williams was sixth or better in the SEC in each of his three seasons in yards per attempt. He averaged 6.8 yards per carry as a junior, 7.1 as a sophomore and 6.6 as a freshman. He had nine runs of 30 yards or longer as a junior — tied for 13th nationally. He ran a 4.51 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine, which tied him for 10th in the running back group. Speed and shiftiness will likely make Williams a change-of-pace option in the NFL. Williams had 2,511 career rushing yards over his three seasons. He led the Wildcats in rushing as a freshman, sophomore and junior. He’s seventh on Kentucky’s all-time rushing list.
