Free agent Gavin Escobar looks to be another in a long line of bad second-round picks for the Cowboys. But like so many tight ends before him, it never materialized in Dallas. Either the player wasn’t talented enough, or he falls victim to the Cowboys love (and rightfully so) of Jason Witten. It’s just hard to take a player like Witten off the field. With the recent extension given to Witten by the Cowboys, and with players like Geoff Swaim , Rico Gathers and possibly James Hanna ready to man the backup spots in 2017, there just isn’t room or need for Escobar anymore. He will likely join the long list of Cowboys’ second-round picks who never lived up to their billing.
