by Soojin Um Staff Writer C an you believe it’s already Baseball season? It’s always exciting on opening day, with hot dogs, peanuts, the smell of grass, and the warm sun of spring. It would be lovely to be able to share the start of Baseball season with our beloved pooches. In many cases, Baseball fans do share the love of America’s pastime with dogs. There are teams that adopt dogs as their mascots, and those dogs entertain fans at games, not to mention warm the hearts of all who know them. Here are some famous dogs in the world of Baseball. Larry In 1912, when the Cleveland Indians were known as the Cleveland Napoleons (or Naps), the team had a mascot named Larry. Larry was a bull terrier, and he was adopted by Jack Graney, an outfielder on the team. Larry hung out with the team, in practices and during games. Graney taught Larry tricks, who would then perform for the fans. By 1914, Larry had become so famous that he even got to meet the President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson. Now that’s VIP treatment. Hank In 2014, during the Milwaukee Brewers spring training in Arizona, a stray Bichon Frise was found on the premises. The members of the team tried to find who he belonged to, but no one came forward to claim him. At that point, the team decided to adopt the dog. They named him Hank after Baseball legend Hank Aaron. The news media and the fans instantly fell in love with him. Hank even got to meet the mayor of Milwauke ...
