Six-Run Sixth Inning Powers UCLA Baseball Past Cal Poly Mustangs

Source: www.bruinsnation.com --- Sunday, April 29, 2018
The Bruins got a strong start from Zach Pettway as they got another series win. UCLA freshman pitcher Zach Pettway really made only one big mistake in his start yesterday against the Cal Poly Mustangs. Pettway went 6 2 ⁄ 3 innings for his seventh win of the season as the Bruins took the second straight game of this weekend’s series and earned UCLA the series win. Pettway really made only one big mistake and that came in the bottom of the fifth. After giving up singles to Colby Barrick and Scott Ogrin, Pettway gave up a 3-run home run to Alex McKenna which gave the Mustangs a 3-0 lead. But that lead was short-lived as the Bruin bats came alive in the top of the 6th. After a lead-off double to Daniel Amaral and a single to Garrett Mitchell, the Bruins had runners on the corners with no outs. Ryan Kreidler drove Amaral in to make it 3-1. Will McInerny laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Mitchell to third, but Cal Poly starter Darren Nelson threw it away, allowing Mitchell to score and Kreidler to get to third. After Jeremy Ydens walked to load the bases, Cal Poly Head Coach Larry Lee brought in Thomas Triantos to relieve for Nelson. But, Triantos threw a wild pitch to Kevin Kendall that scored Kreidler and moved the other runners up. Kendall went on to triple to left center to clear the bases and give the Bruins a 5-3 lead. After anothe Cal Poly pitching change, Chase Strumpf doubled, scoring Kendall. That gave the Bruins a 6-3 lead ...
