Gonzaga (13-13) took the lead on two separate occasions, but each time the Cardinal (21-3) had the answer before taking the lead for good in the seventh. Taylor Davis got the spot start for the Zags and was solid, going 6.1 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Calvin LeBrun finished the seventh and eighth for GU allowing no runs on two hits. On offense, Branson Trube was a bright spot and Jake Vieth was able to collect two RBIs. Trube went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Vieth was 2-for-3 with a double and home run. The Zags got the scoring started in the first inning off of Stanford starter Austin Weiermiller with back-to-back doubles by Trube and Vieth, allowing Trube to score. Stanford tied it at 1-1 in the second before Trube got the inning started again. He singled, moved to second when Vieth was hit by a pitch and then to third on a wild pitch, before scoring on an RBI groundout by Schubert. The Zags answered with a solo home run by Vieth in the top of the fifth, but a two-run Cardinal homer tied it back up at 3-3 in the bottom half of the inning. Stanford added the deciding run ...
