The three-game series between the Southeastern CC Rams and New River CC Muskies had a variety of storylines. All three stories ended the same with SCC claiming victory. Game one Friday saw SCC’s Cody Freeman pitch a masterful one-hitter in a 10-0, six inning win. Freeman struck out 11, walked one and gave up his only hit with two outs in the top of the sixth. That turned out to be his final inning as Gage Hammonds’ three-run homer in the bottom of the frame ended the game by the run rule. Ted McNeil led SCC at the plate with a homer, double and single. Hammonds added a double to his round tripper. Luke Orr doubled and singled. A.J. Brooks added two hits. The second game of the twin bill was good to the last swat. The Muskies carried a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the final inning. Ironeyes Locklear led off the SCC’s final at bat with a double. David Stowers walked. Hammonds sac bunt moved the runners to third and second. New River elected to intentionally walk Luke Orr to load the bases. Chase Hetzel foiled the Muskies strategy by blasting a walk-off, grand slam home run for an 8-5 Ram victory. Evan Hall started on the mound for SCC, pitching four innings, striking out seven and walking none. He was relieved by Hunter Hood in the fifth. Hood struck out three and walked one. Hunter Barfield recorded the final two outs in the top of the seventh and received the win due to Hetzels’ heroics. Apparently Friday’s losses did not sit wel ...
