None of the filmmakers behind Ten Years, a dystopian view of Hong Kong in 2025 under heavy Chinese influence, foresaw the movie's wild success and subsequent controversy. Producer-director Ng Ka-Leung said, "After showing the film in the first festival , we just planned to have several private screenings and that would have been good enough for us."
