This just in: Apple is currently in talks of acquiring TIDAL music. According to The Wall Street Journal , sources close to Jay Z's streaming company claim the negotiation process is still in its early stages, though TIDAL reps have not confirmed the sentiment. Apple Music currently only has 15 million subscribers -- a mere chunk of Spotify's 100 million users and 30 million paying subscribers -- so a TIDAL acquisition would be a definitive advancement to catch up to its competitor. And if this were to officially happen, this wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing for the public, who most likely would prefer to access company exclusives (ex. The Life of Pablo launching via TIDAL) within the same app with the same monthly subscription rate anyway. Hov bought TIDAL from Aspiro back in March 2015 for $56 million USD before branding it as the music platform powerhouse it is today, with the intention of empowering recording artists and they way they govern their records. Currently 19 musicians hold stakes in the company as co-owners, including Beyonce, Daft Punk, Rihanna, Kanye West, Alicia Keys, Calvin Harris, Arcade Fire, Chris Martin of Coldplay, Jack White, J. Cole, Deadmau5, Madonna, Usher and Nicki Minaj. What are you using these days: Spotify, Apple Music, or TIDAL? Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast.com ...
