FIBA photo Philippine national men’s Basketball team naturalized player Andray Blatche will arrive in Manila on late Friday night to join Gilas Pilipinas’ preparations for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Head coach Tab Baldwin informed a small group of sportswriters about this development right after the team’s Thursday training. “He arrives late Friday night,” Baldwin said. “I think we’ll have an afternoon session practice that day, but he won’t take part in the scrimmage.” Baldwin said they were assured by Blatche’s camp that the former NBA veteran will be in better shape once he rejoins Gilas Pilipinas. Last year, Blatche came in overweight and groped for form, affecting the Philippines’ international campaigns. With Blatche appearing far from his usual self, Gilas Pilipinas fell short of winning the gold medal in the FIBA Asia Championship and missed the chance of qualifying outright for the Olympics. Baldwin doesn’t expect any changes to the team’s intensity during practices once Blatche arrives. “I don’t see any reason why we should play a notch lower,” Baldwin said. “We should be doing the best we could to improve every practice and every possession of every practice. I don’t think adding a player should change anything.” ...
