From the beginning Donald Trump’s bare-bones campaign has been filled with bellicose bluster and hollow heroism. Trump’s talking points have often centered on bad-mouthing Mexico and excoriating U.S. companies that do business there. Trump has also packaged an obsolete and overly-simplistic view on trade and has demanded that since the U.S. has a trade deficit with Mexico, Mexico should finance the construction of an expensive and unwieldy wall along the border. Trailing rival Hillary Clinton by a sizable margin in most polls, Trump now has to turn his unruly rhetoric into pragmatic policy proposals. On August 31, Trump arrived in Mexico City for a meeting with Mexico’s President Enrique Peña Nieto.
