Wisdom and (no) Links: The Coming Yankee Dynasty

We’re all dead, we just don’t know it yet. Or, rather, most of Major League Baseball’s teams are dead, they just don’t know it yet. Because, well, the Empire is about to strike back. It won’t come this year – although certainly the “Baby Bombers” have surprised – and it might not come next year. But it’s coming: The next Yankee dynasty. Now, to be sure, others have said that the Yankees would return to dynastic levels before. Heck, even I thought it would have happened earlier. As early as 2012 I was thinking perhaps the 2014-15 offseason , when myself and others thought they would go get a bunch of free agents like Clayton Kershaw and Justin Verlander. That, of course, didn’t happen. But it could happen soon. Because I’ve checked the schedule, and the next arrival of the Yankees free agent frenzy of doom is now set for 2018-19. Bryce Harper, Manny Machado, Clayton Kershaw, Jose Fernandez, Josh Donaldson, Jason Heyward, Matt Harvey, David Price, Andrew McCutchen, Adam Jones, Dallas Keuchel, Zack Britton and Andrew Miller are just a small sampling of the players who either will or could be (if they opt-out) available then. Now, to be sure, there is no guarantee that all of them will be free agents- they could sign new deals before then or choose not to opt-out. And, of course, there is no way of knowing if they will still be (or will return to being) All-Star caliber players by then, either. But with that many players, it seems li ...
