It can also make us physically ill, causing a spike in cortisol that leads to health problems ranging from heart disease to depression.

Shark Tank Saves Startup A Hair Away From Death After Rejecting It Twice

Alanna York shows how success in business can be as much about luck -- on the level of winning the $1 billion Powerball -- as it is skill. She and her partner Erica Gray had invested more than $400,000 in their curly hair products company, Controlled Chaos, and launched in 2012 at the International Beauty Show (IBS) in Chicago. By mid-2015 debt ran deep. They had generated only $300,000 in total sales. Sales flatlined because they couldn’t invest any more money in inventory. The startup was a hair away from death when Shark Tank auditions came to Portland, Maine and were held right next door.

How To Figure Out Who The True Leaders In Your Organization Are

At a recent workshop for a large financial institution, a conversation was elicited about how to identify leaders within the organization. The employees were sitting around tables in various groups and no one really had an answer about who they felt the leaders were. So I gave them all paper and asked them to write down which members of their team and which senior members of the organization they would consider leaders. It should be someone whose behavior they want to emulate and team they'd like to be on. I noticed that the same names popped up over and over! So employees do recognize the leaders within their organizations, they just don't publicly address it. All you have to do to identify the true leaders in your organization is ask! If necessary, try an anonymous exercise like I did. You have the tools at your disposal, will you use them to make your organization stronger?

UN Court To Decide On South China Sea Dispute...So What's Next?

A United Nations arbitration court will rule in in May or June on a fractious maritime dispute between China and the Philippines. The five-person Permanent Court of Arbitration, after seven hearings, is studying now whether China’s claim to a giant tropical ocean flouts UN conventions. Manila said that when it filed the case in 2013. The Philippines and four other Asian governments also claim much of the same South China Sea, which spans 3.5 million square kilometers from Taiwan to Singapore. A lot of the claims overlap, especially where China is involved. The sea holds reserves of undersea oil and natural gas, likewise ample fisheries and lanes for half the world’s commercial shipping. That’s why everyone cares.

Rep. Cook Votes To Strengthen US Manufacturing

Source: cook.house.gov --- Thursday, April 28, 2016
WASHINGTON- Today, Rep. Paul Cook (R-Apple Valley) voted in favor of H.R. 4923, the American Manufacturing Competitiveness Act of 2016. This bill passed the House with overwhelming support. H.R. 4923 considers manufacturing tax cuts through a fair and transparent process, while upholding a strong earmark ban. According to the National Association of Manufacturers, U.S. companies have been hit by a $748 million tax hike each year, undercutting their ability to compete and costing our economy $2 billion annually. This bipartisan legislation will temporarily suspend and reduce tariffs on certain products necessary to manufacturing which will help American manufacturers reduce costs, create jobs, and compete in the global marketplace. Cook said, “This legislation is necessary to help our struggling manufacturing industry. It’s important to our economy that we cut import duties on raw materials, especially when these goods aren’t available domestically. This common-sense legislation will make domestic manufacturers more competitive, grow the American economy, and create jobs.” A member of the House Natural Resources, Armed Services, and Foreign Affairs Committees, Cook served as an infantry officer and retired after 26 years as a Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps. Rep. Cook Votes for Bill Aimed at Stopping Terrorist Groups from Recruiting Americans

Source: cook.house.gov --- Thursday, April 28, 2016
WASHINGTON- Today, Rep. Paul Cook (R-Apple Valley) voted in favor of H.R. 4820, the Combatting Terrorist Recruitment Act of 2016. This bill passed the House with overwhelming support. In March 2015, Congress launched a bipartisan Task Force on Combatting Terrorist and Foreign Fighter Travel. This commission was charged with examining the threat to the United States from foreign fighters. The commission issued a final report on September 29, 2015 with recommendations on closing identified potential security gaps. One of the top recommendations of the Combatting Terrorist and Foreign Fighter Travel Task Force is to use the testimonials of former extremists and their families to combat terrorist recruitment. It requires the Secretary of Homeland Security to incorporate the testimonials of former extremists and defectors into Department of Homeland Security efforts to stop terrorist recruitment. Such testimonials can be used to fight the propaganda of groups like ISIS. It gives the Secretary the ability to counter-message the full array of terrorist groups that threaten our people at home and abroad. Cook said, “To keep America safe, we must stop extremists from peddling their violent propaganda in our own back yard. These former extremists and their families know firsthand the dangers of violent radicalism and the hypocrisy of terrorist organizations like ISIS. Source: http://ift.tt/1lqiW3Y --- Thursday, April 28, 2016
Review – LIMBO (Xbox One) Developer: Playdead/ Double Eleven (Vita) Publisher: Microsoft Studios (XBLA) Play Dead (Other Platforms) Platforms: Microsoft Windows, Playstation 4, Xbox One, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, OSX, Linux, Steam OS, Playstation Vita, IOS, Android, OnLive, Wii U Genre: Puzzle, Platformer Since their creation, the legitimacy of video games being considered an art form has been contested over, and over, and over again. In more recent times, the complexity and innovation that these games present to you, the player, have become so advanced and intricate that at this point, refuting the fact that video games are an art form seems uninformed. They most definitely are. And while many games have proved their legitimacy through technical innovation and stories just as deep and intricate as many of cinema’s greatest treasures, one indie game proves this by scaling everything back, giving you a hauntingly beautiful, quick adventure into the unknown: 2010’s LIMBO. Though it was initially launched by indie dev PlayDead in 2010, the most recent port to the Xbox One, and the one that this review is concerned with, was released in December of 2014. The game is a 2D sidescrolling platformer, in which the player controls a boy who wakes up in the middle of a dark field with no information whatsoever. No cutscenes. No explanations. You are expected to just get up and go, figuring out the game’s mechanics as you go along. The player ...

Review – LIMBO (Xbox One)

San Francisco Giants Baseball Marriage Proposal by The Yes Girls

Source: theyesgirls.com --- Thursday, April 28, 2016
Thomas called us and immediately started gushing about his wonderful girl. He loves her and that was abundantly clear from the start! They both grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and love the SF Giants Baseball team; but last year circumstances moved the couple out to Atlanta, Georgia. Thomas had a dream of proposing on the field at a Giants game, but because of their relocation that dream couldn’t become a reality. Until we brought it to life in a unique way! We had life-size cardboard cut outs created of each of the SF Giants players in their outfield positions, and then added in beautiful love-quotes in speech bubbles on each one. As Thomas brought Ashley around to each player they discussed the quote and memory that went with it. Then he lead her to her favorite player, pitcher Madison Bumgarner, and showed her a custom SF Giants Baseball that read “will you marry me?”. (This Baseball was sitting on top of 3 oversized Hershey’s Kisses because Ashley always gives kisses in multiples of three.) Thomas got down on one knee and proposed amongst their favorite Baseball team! And after she said yes, they even had MadBum (her favorite player’s nickname) congratulate them with a “she said yes” speech bubble!   Vendor Love: Atlanta Marriage Proposal Planners: The Yes Girls Events Atlanta Proposal Photography: Liana Photography Player Cardboard Cutouts: Cardboard Cutout Standees ...

Big Ten Roster Movement (Summer 2016)

Source: forum.umhoops.com --- Thursday, April 28, 2016
Dozens of players a given school evaluates never make it to the school. That's the way college Basketball works. Every player who doesn't come is a potentially useful club to beat the coach over the head with, especially for fans with large magnifying glasses and too little else to do with their time. There is no objective person in the United States who would go over the list of players Beilein has brought here--studded with rich discoveries as it is--and say that Beilein is a bad recruiter. Struck out on a few? Yup and who hasn't (see the top of my statement). Lost some to injuries and been depleted? Absolutely. He and his staff, like every staff, have even bobbled some. But this numbnuts 'Beilein sucks at recruiting' meme needs to be taken out back and shot. As the Cain recruitment once again makes clear, Beilein has a keen eye for talent. There's a certain irony, for me, in that MattD is the one who "discovered" Beilein's discovery here. Let's leave it at that. ...

However, not all people have shared equally in this prosperity. In economic terms, overall GDP is growing but median incomes since 1999 have actually fallen. While technology has created greater wealth for society and for innovators at an unprecedented pace, changes in our economy are actually leaving many people — especially middle- and base-level earners — worse off.

Microsoft gamifies Windows 10 bug hunting

Source: www.ghacks.net --- Tuesday, April 26, 2016
Microsoft promised to deliver builds faster to Windows 10 insiders and it certainly kept its word so far as Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14332 has just been released. Considering that the company released a massive update in the beginning of April already, it is understandable that this new build concentrates mostly on bug fixes and improvements rather than another batch of new features. Microsoft wants Insiders to test, find and report bugs to the company so that it can address those before the Anniversary Update this Summer . While the functionality is already there, in form of the Feedback Hub application, the company just announced the launch of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update April 2016 Bug Bash. With it come quests that users can complete on the system. Each quest tasks the user with certain things, such as using the computer for a day without mouse or trackpad, or testing Windows Pen Inking functionality. There are three types of quests: normal, limited time, and advanced. Limited time quests are only available for a certain period of time before they run out and are replaced with new quests. This works similar to Daily Quests that you find in computer games such as World of Warcraft. Advanced Quests on the other hand are technical in nature. Microsoft notes that they may "require changing the system configuration on your device and require an understanding on how to revert the changes after the Quest is done". For i ...

Malcolm Turnbull Slams Submarine Deal Haters: ‘Not Like an iPhone’

Source: http://ift.tt/1UnvZo0 --- Wednesday, April 27, 2016
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has slammed those who have criticized the large amount used to build Australia’s new fleet of submarines. “A submarine is not like an iPhone that you can just buy from overseas and, if it doesn’t work, you can buy a new one,” Turnbull said in an interview with ABC radio on Wednesday. “This is the most complex, sophisticated, technologically advanced piece of machinery or vessel that will be built.” The Prime Minister stressed that the huge figure was what people have been wondering about, and he also admitted that establishing more submarines locally would have been more expensive. Turnbull is expected to sign an agreement with DCNS before the year ends. The agreement aims to guarantee jobs of up to 3000 in Adelaide and protect its place as the “center of naval architecture.” When asked why France ended up with the contract, Turnbull explained that the European country had the proficiencies that best epitomized what Australia needed, according to Sky News Australia . The Prime Minister added that a factory needs to be built before starting work on building the submarines. “That will be a few years. Between now and then we start to develop all components that go into the submarine,” Turnbull said. Turnbull announced on Tuesday that France won the $50-million deal to construct 12 submarines in order to boost the country’s future defense system, beating Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Kawasaki ...

While campaigning in Indiana, Ted Cruz butchers famous scene from movie ‘Hoosiers’

Source: http://ift.tt/g5lp9S - Wednesday, April 27, 2016
Republican U.S. presidential candidate and U.S. Senator Ted Cruz speaks to supporters during his five state primary night rally in Knightstown, Indiana, U.S., April 26, 2016. REUTERS/Aaron P. Bernstein This week, the latest episode of America’s Next Top President is being filmed in the heartland as the candidates flood the state of Indiana, vying for Hoosier hearts but mostly their votes. They ordered cheesesteaks in Philly and scarfed fair food in Iowa. So it only makes sense that in Indiana, where basketball hoops pepper driveways and barn doors, the candidates would invoke the game deeply rooted there. Ted Cruz tried. And Ted Cruz failed. At a campaign rally Tuesday night in Knightstown, inside the very gym where the famous movie “Hoosiers” was filmed, the Republican senator from Texas attempted to recreate one of the film’s classic scenes. With the entire gym’s attention on him, Cruz gestured excitedly to the end of the court, where a man in a sweater vest stood in front of the goal atop a red ladder. In his hands he held a measuring tape, a nod to the scene in Hoosiers where the coach of the underdog basketball team from rural Indiana tries to calm the nerves of his awestruck players. Right after they amble into the Butler Fieldhouse in the movie, where the team was set to play in the state final game, the coach measures the height of the goal, then says this: “Ten feet. Why District 34 Should Elect McIntyre For Senate

Source: www.rightsidesd.com - Wednesday, April 27, 2016
District 34 voters have an opportunity to elect a fiscally conservative Republican if they vote for Janette McIntyre. McIntyre, known for her tenacity, hard work and dedication to strict conservative principals entered the race for the open seat vacated by Senator Craig Tieszen. Rather than running for his House Seat, Representative Partridge made the good old boy swap with Senator Tieszen so both would have a seat in the Legislature. Janette upset the applecart with her entrance to the race. And now the race is on. When asked why she entered the race McIntyre said, “they have all voted for the two largest tax increases in South Dakota history!” It’s true. Dryden and Partridge in the House and Tieszen in the Senate voted yet again this year to increase everyone’s sales tax. “It is one thing to call yourself a conservative and walk the walk,” said McIntyre. In the case of the sales tax increase McIntyre agrees that teachers, and for that matter a lot of professions even with in the school system – nurses, custodians etc. in South Dakota schools, could use a raise. “The issue with the school systems is that they need to look for efficiencies not continually look to the taxpayers for more and more money.” Governor Daugaard says South Dakota is in dire straights to hire teachers and yet the HB1182 bill claims that South Dakota has 400 too many teachers! “What gives?” asks McIntyre. Yes, she is definitely known for her tenacity and wi

Why you should already be planning for Windows 10…

Source: computacenterblogs.com --- Wednesday, April 27, 2016
If you have not already started doing so, then now is definately the time to be planning for the adoption of Windows 10 into your business. There are several good reasons why this is the case, but I am going to focus on just 4. Windows 10 has now been available for just under 12 months, in that time it has taken approximately 14% market share. So far general perception has been positive, and whilst device shipment volumes have continued to decline across the market, Windows 10 continues to have a high degree of interest, particularly across business users. There are a number of factors that are driving Windows 10 adoption, these are rapidly converging to form a “pincer movement”. As such the time to act and plan for the future is now. User Expectation The first factor, one we speak of often, is Users and User Expectation. Clearly adoption of Windows 10 has been focussed in the consumer environment, so awareness of and interest in the platform is high from a user perspective. Users are starting to take advantage of some of the modern features and benefits that Windows 10 has to offer. In today’s world of highly influential and “tech-savvy” users, driving Windows 10 as part of your Digital Workplace strategies is a good way to deliver higher user engagement, greater satisfaction and enhanced productivity by using modern tools. To the IT department, Windows 10 is clearly a core pillar upon which other services will be layered on and ...

Alienation touches down on PlayStation Store today

Source: blog.eu.playstation.com --- Tuesday, April 26, 2016
Hello Earthlings, Tommaso from Housemarque here. The time to stand up for your planet has finally come! Alienation was announced at GamesCom in 2014, and since then we and Sony XDev have been working hard to make this the best game we’ve ever released together. Alienation is not only a testament to PS4’s raw power, but also an important milestone for the arcade games of the future. Fans of Dead Nation will find the same ruthless gunfights and overwhelming tide of enemies they loved to hate in our zombie title – with a boost: there’s no place to hide or escape, only skill and planning can get you out of the carnage in one piece! At the same time, those who appreciate Resogun will be mesmerised by the same familiar brand of total destruction and kinetic neon action that our 2013 title is famous for. And then there is all the new stuff, propelling Housemarque to new heights and players into a vicious loop of “one more game and then we’ll stop…” Alienation features three fully customisable classes, four players drop-in/drop-out online multiplayer (but you can play solo!), a bunch of game-changing active and passive abilities, loot of various rarity, XP and character leveling, an Invasion mode where you hunt other players down or defend from invaders, fully configurable weapons and gear and much more… Like what, you ask? Beyoncé's Lemonade and the Undeniable Power of a Black Woman's Vulnerability

Source: www.vulture.com - Sunday, April 24, 2016
Where do we begin with Beyoncé's Lemonade ? The pop juggernaut dropped her sixth album almost exactly like she did her last: mostly without warning and with 12 accompanying videos, this time premiering on HBO all at once . Now that we've given it the proper time to slay us, we're ready to get in formation and discuss. Vulture editor Dee Lockett and The Cut editors Ashley Weatherford and Lindsay Peoples unpack their thoughts on those Jay Z cheating rumors, the now-infamous Becky, Beyoncé's increasing normalcy, and more. (Read our previous roundtable on "Formation" here .) Who do we think Lemonade is for? Jay Z, Beyoncé's dad, black women, all of the above? Ashley Weatherford: Right about now a lot of people are speculating who this album is about. Well let me tell you who: It’s about a dude who lost his goddamn mind and then Beyoncé put his shit on blast. This man needs all of your prayers right now. He has the Beyhive, the Beygency, and the Beyconglomerate marching, pitchforks in hand. Pray for “Becky with the good hair,” too. Although her hair may no longer be “good” since Beyoncé shaved her edges into a withering pulp last night. But seriously, who is this album about? The good-willed person inside of me doesn’t want to say it’s about Beyoncé and Jay Z. That’s too much to handle. In fact, I refuse to believe it’s about those two and is instead more of a general indictment of the bullshit that oozes in the wake of infidelity and

Apple Selloff Overdone? Unreliable Source Might Be To Blame For iPhone Production Cut Talk

Source: www.benzinga.com --- Sunday, April 24, 2016
Nehal Chokshi of Maxim said the June-quarter guidance of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL ) is expected to meet his estimate after his "analysis of likely source of Nikkei report regarding June quarter iPhone production cuts." The report stated Apple "will maintain the reduced output level in the June quarter." Source: www.mactrast.com --- Sunday, April 24, 2016
Apple has informed developers that beginning June 1, 2016, all Apple Watch apps submitted to the App Store must be native apps created with the watchOS 2 SDK or later. At launch, all Apple Watch apps relied on the iPhone to run properly. As of the debut of watchOS 2, Apple offered support for native apps that run completely on the Watch, allowing Watch apps to open and run more quickly, and to operate more efficiently. watchOS 2 was released last September. As well as offering the ability to create native apps, the new OS allowed developer access to hardware components such as the Digital Crown, Taptic Engine, microphone and loudspeaker. It also allowed creation of custom watch face complications, and support for HealthKit, Apple’s biometric repository, and the ability to read accelerometer functions and the ability to write workout data to the Activity app. Apple is expected to show off new versions of their watchOS operating system at their WorldWide Developer Conference , beginning June 13th, alongside new versions of iOS, OS X, and tvOS. ...
